The Pattern Beneath the Pattern: Writing the Story Under the Story
A Fifth Brain Creative Studio with Teré Fowler-Chapman
Fifth Brain Collective is thrilled to welcome poet, educator, and life and recovery coach, Teré Fowler-Chapman as the host of our upcoming Creative Studio.
As a teaser for what to expect from this interactive workshop, Fowler-Chapman writes:
“We often think we’re writing about a moment or even a memory, but more often we’re writing toward something that keeps returning, something even deeper. A feeling, an image, a question, or a lesson that hasn’t quite let us go. There’s a poem in everyday moments if we slow down and look closely enough. In this workshop, we’ll slow down and pay attention to the daily repetitions. The small, everyday moments that might seem insignificant at first, and explore what lives underneath them. In our time together, we’ll explore a couple of published poems and, through generative writing, follow what keeps showing up until we begin to name the pattern beneath the pattern in ourselves. This space is open to all levels and genres. Bring your notebook and pen and come as you are, with whatever is on your mind. Let the writing take it from there.”
If you are not yet familiar with Fowler-Chapman’s stunning poetry, The World Never Ends Like It’s Supposed To is a good place to start. He is also the author of MOONSHiNE and a new chapbook, Becoming [Free].
Join us for a guided evening of wonder and inspiration, finding patterns in our writing that are hidden in plain sight and exploring what they might be trying to tell us.
